Very soon Final Fantasy XIV will be released on Microsoft consoles, and Square Enix has already shared some interesting news: exclusive to the Xbox version of the game will be the in-game currency FFXIV Coins. There are no similar currencies on PC and PlayStation.
FFXIV Coins can be purchased from the Microsoft Store for real money and used for in-game purchases or subscriptions. This is the only way to pay if you’re playing exclusively on Xbox. However, if your account is linked to other platforms, you can buy through the official website and all your purchases will automatically be available on Xbox as well.
Things are getting even more interesting with the release of Final Fantasy XIV on Microsoft consoles. The Xbox-exclusive FFXIV Coins currency may be related to Microsoft’s desire to earn a percentage of microtransactions. But it could also have a positive result: users of the Microsoft Rewards program might be able to use their points to buy FFXIV Coins.
However, gamers did not appreciate this move by Microsoft. Some accused the company of greed and complicating the situation because now you will have to pay for two subscriptions simultaneously. Playing the full version of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox requires an Xbox Game Pass Core or Ultimate subscription. While PlayStation has no such requirements.
Final Fantasy XIV will be released on the Xbox Series as early as March 21. Users will be able to choose between Starter and Complete editions, as well as purchase the Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker add-on.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will automatically receive the Starter edition, which includes the main campaign and the add-ons Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward and FINAL FANTASY XIV STORMBLOOD.
